The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The books were gorgeous.
The Swedish films were not quite so.
The first in this trilogy wasn't bad at all, though it definitely left some to be desired as far as as staying true to the book was concerned.
The second strayed a bit farther away.
The third had nothing to do with the book- it looked as if it had been made in a hurry. Oh it did carry the story but only in outlines- it totally missed out on the beautiful details.

Now I know books have to be adapted to screenplays and moving pictures don't have the beauty of a 'thousand words' to fall back back on; but one can at least try.
And then I saw the new Daniel Craig starrer 'the girl...'! It is a fabulously made movie. It stays true to the book, manages to squeeze in all the major and minor details/events of the book without compromising on the pace of the movie. It shows what the other one had missed completely- Lisbeth Salander's relationship with her now-ill ex guardian; exactly how she manipulates money into her account and a number of other things.
Though I get terribly depressed and scared in equal measure after seeing the movie- I would still give a big thumbs up to the new version, even though they do twist the story in parts, especially the end where Harriet Vanger is found in London!
